Today will be telling of his recovery, but the doctor was pretty encouraging last night. We're of course all hoping for the best. Seeing my dad like this is somewhat surreal. This is the man that still splits wood with his eyes closed and wrastles deer to the ground with one hand tied behind his back. I think that tenacity is what will keep him pushing toward recovery, though. My mom has been incredibly cool these last few days. She walked into ICU and didn't bat any eye as she gathered information, helped my dad take a leak, and comfort all of us. Having not been here the last two weeks, she plopped down in the recliner in dad's room and informed us she wouldn't be leaving his side. After some hesitancy from the nurse of having her sleep in the room, she said she'd sleep on the waiting room couch. As you can imagine, there were some colorful characters in the waiting room so in my mind that was not an option. We finally convinced her to come back to the hotel and get a good nights rest. We've promised her a ride in the wheel chair through the 18 miles of corridor back to my dad's room. I think she is actually looking forward to that.
So, pray the infection would be healed and he would continue on the road to recovery. Pray for my mom; she's still very short of breath. We're wanting to make sure she's staying healthy throughout this as well. I made her repeat after me in the hotel last night 'I must care for me, so I can care for others. i must care for me, so I can care for others'. I tried to get Heidi and Erin to do it....but they're too cool for school. Humor as always was a good dose of medicine
