We left the house at about noon, made a few stops and arrived here about 4:30 to find my dad not in his room and transferred to ICU. Not what we expected! My first thought was wondering why someone hadn't called my mom's cell phone! After hiking across to the other side of the hospital, we found him in the ICU. The doctor quickly briefed us that dehydration, diarrhea, and a fever had led to extremely low blood pressure and a transfer to ICU.
His blood pressure is being supported by meds and they have an IV To bring his fluids back up. There was no injury from the fall but they will continue to watch for internal bleeding, fever, and infection. He's currently on strong IV antibiotics and resting. Though he's stable now, there is of course great possibility for infection.
Mom is cool as a cucumber and will not be leaving dad's side. Heidi and I are here and Erin will be joining us shortly. Check back here or on my facebook profile for updates as they come available.
Was singing one of my favorite hymns in the shower this morning....my prayer as we go.
Love from the Shellenbargers
Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me
